Dear Members and Friends,

I’m excited to share our latest news including recent events, our upcoming AGM, a save-the-date for our Christmas party on 5th December, and introduce the new charities we’ll be proudly supporting in 2025-26.

27th Borges lecture “Borges, Bosch and Spregelburd: Visions of Inferno” by Professor Ben Bollig (University of Oxford)
Thank you to all who attended this very special edition of our Borges Lecture which took place at the Ambassador’s Residence on October 16th. More than 50 guests listened to Professor Bollig’s research tracing the influence Jorge Luis Borges has on contemporary Argentine writers, specifically on Rafael Spregelburd’s play Inferno, one of seven plays he wrote inspired by the painting Seven Deadly Sins by Hieronymous Bosch.

This fascinating and challenging talk made us all think with an open mind, that Borges is not only his books and poems but an intangible, yet recognisable legacy present in more works than we thought. An informative Q&A followed, before we all enjoyed empanadas and Argentinian wines.

Our New Designated Charities for 2025-26
The executive committee received 5 applications from charities to consider supporting in 2025-26. After careful consideration, we are delighted to announce the charities the AAS will be supporting for 2025-26 are:

Please click on their logos below to go to their websites and see the vital work they are doing. Your support in being a member of the AAS, attending our events and supporting our raffles all help towards raising funds for these charities. Thank you!

Gift Aid – Important Reminder – Gift Aid significantly boosts our fundraising impact. If you donate or renew your membership, please remember to update your Gift Aid status on your account. Most members have an automatic renewal, but we need to renew Gift Aid permissions each year to claim this benefit. Thank you for helping us maximise our contributions.
Christmas Concert and Party – Save The Date!
And finally, our annual Christmas Concert and Party will take place at the Ambassador’s Residence on Thursday 5th December. This year, we are excited to welcome Germán Clavijo (viola), the only Argentine member of the London Symphony Orchestra, who will be performing with Spanish pianist Antonio Oyarzábal. Tickets will be on sale soon, with more details to follow. Join us for a festive evening of music, light refreshments, and our Christmas raffle.
Thank you,
