Art in Argentina Online Course

The second session of our Art in Argentina course is this Saturday. The first session was very well received, and we’re excited to continue the journey. Last month, we explored the roots of Argentine art, starting with Pre-Hispanic Art, Spanish Baroque, traveler artists, the colonial period, and the 19th century. This Saturday, we’ll dive into the Argentine forerunners, European influences, and key artists. If you’d like to join us, please email us for details.

Support for Bahía Blanca

Lastly, many of you have asked about how you can help those affected by the recent storm and floods in Bahía Blanca.

Here are a few ways you can help:

  1. Fundación Sí (www.fundacionsi.org.ar) – Responding efficiently to natural disasters, they survey homes, one-by-one (more than 3000 in Bahía Blanca so far and they continue), to replace electrical appliances, and working tools lost due to the floods. They use the funds donated to buy and distribute goods such as refrigerators or construction materials lost in the affected areas.They can receive donations in US dollars via this link: https://givebutter.com/zHNP1S
  2. Asociación Nacer de Ayuda al Prematuro – Hospital José Penna (www.asociacionnacer.com.ar) – Supporting neonatal services and parents of premature children at this local hospital. They can receive foreign donations, with further information in this flyer. Click here to download.
  3. Cáritas Argentina (www.caritas.org.ar) – is also working in Bahía Blanca and can receive donations from abroad through Help Argentina, on their website.

Formed in 1998 under the guidance of Laura Escalada Piazzolla and the Astor Piazzolla Foundation, this formation continues the maestro’s mission of preserving and promoting his legacy. Featuring virtuoso musicians Pablo Mainetti (bandoneon), Nicolás Guerschberg (piano), Serdar Geldymuradov (violin), Armando de la Vega (guitar), Daniel Falasca (double bass), and musical director Julián Vat, the quintet captures the essence of Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tango while exploring his vast repertoire. Quinteto Astor Piazzolla will bring their show to London, revisiting classics like Oblivion and Adiós Nonino.

One of Argentina’s most iconic bands, Babasonicos bring their fusion of rock, pop, and Latin electronic music back to Europe this October. Known for redefining the sound of Latin rock since 1991, Babasonicos are celebrated for their unique style and constant innovation.

The band has released 13 albums, including Jessico and the critically acclaimed Trinchera Avanzada, which earned multiple Latin Grammy and Premios Gardel nominations. Tracks like “La Pregunta,” named the best Argentine rock song of the 21st century by Rolling Stone, showcase their impact and creativity.
