Online Art in Argentine Course
We are delighted to announce the return of our popular online Art in Argentina course with Fernando Guibert, back by enthusiastic demand!
Following the successful format used earlier this year, this three-session Zoom course will explore a refreshed selection of Argentine artists—making it ideal both for newcomers and for those who joined the first edition. Fernando will introduce new material and tailor the content with returning participants in mind, ensuring a fresh and engaging experience for everyone.

About Fernando Guibert
The course will be taught by Fernando Guibert, an accomplished artist and lecturer with degrees in Fine Art and Modern and Contemporary Art from Buenos Aires. He has extensive experience teaching History of Art, painting, and etching in both Argentina and the UK, and currently working at West Thames College.
He has done several exhibitions and his works are part of some prestigious collections worldwide.
Format
Three sessions, each lasting 90 minutes. All sessions are taught in English and will take place online (Zoom link will be emailed to attendees prior to each session).
Course Outline
Session 1: Saturday 24th January: Foundations of Argentine Art
In the first session we will do an introduction and review of the art from the origins; the inspiration of the land with Pre-Hispanic Art; the Spanish Baroque; the “travelling” artists; the “angels and the devils”, and the 19th century.
Session 2: Saturday 21st February: Argentine Pioneers and European Influences
In this session we will see an important “second inspiration” from the land; the gaucho and the city; the impact of European inspiration; in search of a national identity, and key artists.
Session 3: Saturday 21st March: Modernity and Contemporary Movements
The final session will cover modernity; new figuration; abstract artists; contemporary movements with key artists; and the future.
Course Approach
Throughout the seminar we will identify key artists and movements and we will focus on four elements for analysing artworks, with images and text shown in a very fluid presentation on Power Point.
- Space
- Composition
- Form
- Content
Additionally, we will engage in comparative analysis of artistic examples to deepen our understanding of how art in Argentina has evolved over time. The session will be interactive with time allocated for Q&As. We encourage all attendees to turn on cameras and actively participate throughout the seminar series. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in the intersection of art, history, and culture in Argentina.
