Time: 6.00pm – 8.15pm

He will outline the continuing importance of Borges for Argentine writers; how he is present in Spregelburd’s work; and what the latter does with this legacy, in particular in a remarkable recent play, Inferno, which draws not only on Borges’ fiction and critical writings, but also on the painting of Hieronymus Bosch and the poetry of Dante.

Ben BolligBen Bollig is Professor of Latin American Literature and Film at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of St Catherine’s College. His recent books include Moving Verses, a study of the cinematic adaptation of poetry in Argentina, and Politics and Public Space in Contemporary Argentine Poetry: The Lyric and the State. He co-edited Latin American Cultural Studies: A Reader. He has translated the poetry of Cristian Aliaga, Andi Nachon, Sergio Raimondi, and many others, for publication in English. He is currently preparing a book on tenderness in Latin American literature and film.
