DESCRIPTION:The Anglo-Argentine Society\, with the support of the Argentine Embassy\, invites you to the presentation and signing of journalist and AAS Member Rex Gowar’s book PUMAS\, A History of Argentine Rugby\, published by Polaris. \nThe presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and a light refreshment of empanadas and wine. \nYou will also have the opportunity to buy copies signed by the author. \nThursday 3 November – 6.00-8.30pm \nAmbassador’s Residence \n49 Belgrave Square\, London SW1X 8QZ \n‘Few have a better feel for Argentine rugby than Rex Gowar. He has followed the Pumas for decades and his experience oozes from every paragraph. A fascinating\, educational read . . . pour yourself a glass of Malbec and enjoy.’ ~ Robert Kitson\, The Guardian \nRex Gowar\, who was born and raised in Argentina\, reported on the Pumas for the Buenos Aires Herald English-language daily from 1979 and Reuters from 1985. Rex was also Reuters sports correspondent in Rome and Paris in the 1990s\, he covered ten consecutive FIFA World Cups from Argentina 1978\, and four Rugby World Cups. Having been told he ought to write a book about the Pumas after their bronze medal in 2007\, he finally got around to it in retirement and near isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
